WVC was founded in the early 1980's by Martin Hattersley and Philip White, whose
combined professional careers encompass valuation practice and professorial appointments
in Europe, North America and South East Asia.
The goal of the first WVC was to raise the profile of the valuation profession
through a conference format, featuring discussions and papers. The first Congress
was held at the University of Cambridge, England, in 1984. Initially designed
as a once-only event, the Cambridge Congress was a great success, with approximately
100 people in attendance from around the world. The Congress was sponsored by
four universities and the Incorporated Society of Valuers and Auctioneers (ISVA)
a British professional society, which continued as a sponsor until it merged with
The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in January 2000.
By popular demand
a second Congress was organized. This was held at the University of British Columbia
in 1987.
Biennial Congresses followed at the Universities of: Singapore
1989, The City (London) and Amsterdam 1991, Auckland 1993, British
Columbia 1995, Amsterdam 1997, RMIT University Melbourne 1999,
National University of Singapore 2001, and University of Cambridge
2003.
